11-U DAWGS Ring in Freedom At Veteran's Day Tourney

November 13, 2011

The 2011 11-U Delta Dawgs Fall Ball Team rang in the Veteran's Day Holiday in style, capturing Nation's Baseball Freedom Bowl Championship in Tracy. The Dawgs dominated Stockton's Western Ranch All Stars in their tournament opener, 11-1. Backed by the dominant pitching of Isaac Buchanan and Nick Liechty, the Dawgs bats opened up on all cylinders, with (2) hits from Maximus Cappello and (2) Doubles and (2) RBI's from "RJ" Jackson.

In the Saturday night cap, the Dawgs battled friendly, cross-town rival, Elite Baseball to a 9-9 tie. Trailing 9-7 in the final inning, the Dawgs showed their fangs with Keanu Menganhauser leading off the frame with a lightning bolt of a triple. Noah Cleland then brought Keanu home with a perfectly placed bunt single down the third base line. Nick Liechty and Blaine Robbins then followed up with consecutive singles to tie the game. On Championship Sunday, the Dawgs and Elite Baseball met in a nail-biting rematch. Keanu Menganhauser paced the offense with a (2) Run single in the 1st. Crafty "P-Wood", Peyton Wood kept Elite off balance for (4) innings with his nasty "spinners". With the game on the line in the final inning, Dawgs "closer", Maximus Cappello entered the game with the tying and winning runs on base -and NO BODY Out. Used to these "pressure cooker" situations that his Dad throws him in, Cappello promptly retired (3) consecutive batters on a total of (7) pitches, nailing down the save and helping push the Dawgs in to the Championship Game.

In the title game, aided by the return of Blaine Robbins and Peyton Cleland (who had been playing in yet another championship game earlier in the day- this one of the "pigskin" kind), the Dawgs bats opened things up with their fire power on full display. The 1-2 lead-off punch, Nick Liechty and Robbins did their thing, getting on base, allowing Cappello to knock in the 1st run. Jeffrey Wexler then roped another single, knocking in (2) more runs. Not to be shown up, young "RJ" Jackson flexed his muscles with an opposite field bomb -a 2-Run HR! By the time the 1st inning was over, the Dawgs has tallied a whopping ELEVEN runs. With Pitcher, Isaac Buchanan, in his typical, fine form, the Dawgs were well on their way to bringing home their 1st title. With the Dawgs tacking on (5) more runs and Buchanan facing just (2) hitters over the minimum, the umpires raised the "white flag" and halted the game due to the "15-Run" rule with the Dawgs dominating the Stockton All Stars 16-1.

The Dawgs make something very clear to all: this team -assembled less than (2) months earlier- was learning how to play together and the sky is the limit for these outstanding boys!

9-U Delta Dawgs Sniff Out Victory in 1st Tournament!

February 21, 2011

Playing in their first competitive baseball tournament, the 9U Delta Dawgs defeated the NorCal Devil Dawgs, 12-7, to capture the All World Sports Baseball President’s Day baseball tournament championship.  With only six weeks of practice and competing against more experienced teams, the tenacious Dawgs won three straight games on Monday at the Sacramento Sports Complex to bring home their first championship trophy.

The 9U Dawgs went undefeated in five games, racking up 62 total runs.  In the final three elimination games, the Dawgs outscored teams from Brentwood, Citrus Heights and Suisun City 39 to10.

“I am so proud of each one of the boys.  Once they worked through their first game jitters, they played like a veteran team.  We were very aggressive at the plate, every player had a multiple hit weekend.  This was an outstanding team effort and a great first tournament experience”, said manager, Matt Turturici..

In the first elimination game on Monday, the Dawgs defeated Brentwood Rampage 17-2.  Alex Merchant pitched a strong complete game for the win.  Jared deFremery, Cameron Brossard, Casey Turturici and Kobe Mengenhauser combined for nine hits, resulting in ten runs.

In the semifinals, the Dawgs dominated MVP Baseball 10-1.  Mateo Humphreys and Cameron Brossard shut them down  with great pitching.   Ryan Jackson and Ryan Pierce led the Dawgs scoring attack with timely doubles.  Outstanding defensive plays by Bradley Sides and Adam Smith prevented MVP from scoring any additional runs.  Justin Lund, Jackson and Pierce led the Dawgs hitting attack.

In the final game, the Dawgs scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat the NorCal Devil Dawgs 12-7.  Pierce and Jackson, with their strong pitching effort, frustrated Devil Dawgs’ batters all game.  With their parents cheering on the boys, the upstart Dawgs celebrated their first tournament experience with a championship trophy!

PRESS RELEASE: Announcement From Co-Founder, Ward Radelich

PRESS RELEASE:  Announcement From Co-Founder, Ward Radelich

October 14, 2010

Nearly seven years ago, John Zamora, Roger Kruse and I desired to form a competitive team that would play year round.  Our main goal was to give players a chance to play baseball at a high level to prepare them for high school baseball.  Now, our sons are playing for their respective high school teams and it is becoming difficult to find the time to dedicate to this fine organization.

Accordingly, John  Zamora (President Delta Dawgs Baseball), and Vice-President Roger Kruse, and myself (Ward Radelich - Vice-President) hereby resign our positions with the Delta Dawgs Baseball Club.  We all feel that the Club needs new leaders with the innovation, energy, and enthusiasm, that the Delta Dawgs Baseball Club started with and still deserves.

The Delta Dawgs Baseball Club will now be led by Mark Murray (President), James Cappello (Vice-President), and Bruce Prybylinski (Vice-President).

The decision to step away has been an extremely emotional one as we have formed many friendships with numerous Dawgs family members and with the players themselves.  It is always with pride that we watch these former players either play at the high school level - or graduate and begin their lives with the same determination in which they played.

We appreciate all the support from the families over the years and  look forward to following the Delta Dawgs Baseball Club's successes for years to come.

Sincerely,

Ward Radelich, Vice-President

Delta Dawgs bring home the bling

Brentwood’s 9U Delta Dawgs brought home championship rings after going 5-0 in the recent Big League of Dreams Summer Champions Tournament held in Manteca.

The first game pitted the Dawgs against the Bay Valley Bombers of Tracy, whom the Dawgs beat 7-5.

Solid pitching by Howie Hicks, Tommy Munson and Ryan Jackson supported by great defense lead to the win. Triples by Richie Kabasinskas and Hicks secured it. On Saturday, the Dawgs handily beat the Bombers 11-3 and a tough Monterey Bay team 14-10.

In Sunday’s semifinal game, played in 104-degree temperatures, the Dawgs again faced Monterey Bay, this time prevailing by a score of 10-6. The championship game showcased the Dawgs and Brentwood’s Nor Cal Titans in a match-up of local rivals. The Dawgs got off to a great start by scoring four runs in the first inning, but the Titans rallied for three after two innings. Outstanding pitching in all seven innings by Munson and extraordinary team defense held the Titans to only one more run by the end of six frames.

In extra innings, the Dawgs loaded the bases, setting the table for leadoff hitter Jared Cruce, who drilled a shot that scored the winning run. Final score: Dawgs 5, Tiyans 4.

The 9U Delta Dawgs are coached by Mark Murray, Buzz Cruce and Jason Peterson with assistance from Paul Jackson. For information on tryouts, call 925-584-8066 or e-mail mark@markmurray.org. For more information on the Dawgs, visit www.deltadawgsbaseball.com.

The Dawgs earned their title by handily beating the Windsor Jaguars 12-1 in four innings. The one run allowed is a tribute to the well-synchronized Dawg defense, in which all players made a significant contribution. The team members include Howie Hicks, Devyn Douglas, Oscar Murray, Jeffrey Wexler, Peyton Wood, Jared Cruce, Max Peterson, Ryan Jackson, Richie Kabasinskas, Tommy Munson and Bryce Fountain, coached by Mark Murray, Buzz Cruce and Jason Peterson.

Delta Dawgs 13U Baseball Team wins first Tourny !

The Delta Dawgs 13U Baseball team won their first tournament of the year at Manteca's Field of Dreams.  Despite going 4-0 and outscoring their opponents 24-9, the weekend could have  ended early  if not for some late inning heroics at the plate along with some usual strong pitching.

In the first game of the Nations sponsored event, the Dawgs played the Brentwood Blast Red, another team from Brentwood in which many of the kids from both teams have grown up playing together. A pitching battle through 5 innings, RJ Prince and Daniel Martin combined for 5 shutout innings for the Dawgs, while Anthony Lewallen from  the Blast allowed only 2 unearned runs through 4 innings himself.  In the 5th inning, however,  the Dawgs bats awoke banging out 8 runs , capped off by a 3 run triple by Roger Kruse to end the game 8-0.

In game 2, against the Bomberz from Stockton, the Dawgs were cruising along thanks to strong defense and the pitching efforts of Ryan Cook and Jacob Martin.  Cook started the game pitching 3 solid shutout innings, and when Martin left the mound the team was up 6-1 in the top of the 6th. The Bomberz rallied in the top of 6th to bring the score to 6-5.  A big clutch  double by Charlie Sides in the bottom of the 6th not only cleared the bases making the score 9-5, it also ended the game  due to a prolonged inning allowing the game to expire after a 2 hour time limit  before the Bomberz could have another shot at the plate.

Game 3 was a real nail biter and found the Dawgs facing a stubborn Bomberz Team again.  After  4 shutout innings from Jacob Martin the Dawgs seemed to have control of the game and a 3-0 lead. Unwilling to go down without a fight, the Bomberz combined for 4 runs to take the lead by the end of the 6th. What happened next will probably be remembered as the clutch hit of the year for the Dawgs.  With two outs, down one run and a full count,  Colin Summers  lined a single to leftfield scoring the games tying run.  In the teams first extra inning win, Charlie sides knocked in the game winner with a single to left with the bases loaded and no outs in the 8th.

The Championship Game  was hightlighted by the teams first complete game pitching performance by Nick Zalec.  The big lefty went the distance shutting out the Rebels, from Tracy, while striking out 13 on 94 pitches. Malic Hutchins and Jimmy Darling, who have been hot all year, provided all the offense the Dawgs would need contributing on both runs in the 2-0 final.

9U Dawgs had an awesome showing during March 13th & 14th Super Series in Sacramento!

March 13th 1st game, Dawgs vs. Bret’s Muckdogs

9U Dawgs bats were on fire against the Muckdogs with a smoking final score of 20-4. 100% of the boys made it on base this game, an awesome effort by the entire team. Bryce Fountain lead the charge today with two triples.  The boys really dominated on defense and showed how their efforts at practice have really paid off. Tommy Munson & Howie Hicks dominated on the mound as well. This is the way to start a tournament!

March 13th 2nd game, Dawgs vs. Laguna Wallbangers

The Dawgs got off to a great start with 3 runs in the 1st inning, including a homer by Max Peterson!  The 3rd inning they scored 8 runs and went through the batting order, most notably a dropped 3rd strike with 2 outs allowed our runners to advance and started a rally to add another 4 runs by the end the inning.  Richie Kabasinskas was throwing heat & dominated on the mound with 6 KO’s. The final winning score was 14-7.

March 14th 1st game, Dawgs vs. Bret’s Muckdogs

The 9U’s set the pace with 2 runs in the 1st inning and consistent scoring to end the game with the win 11-10. With 27 plate appearances and 19 stolen bases the boys showed their aggressive base running. Oscar Murray pitched accurately and with good defensive support of the team, was able to shut down the first 6 batters. The Muckdogs rallied in the 5th inning scoring 5 runs, but we were able to hold them with bases loaded with a critical strike out by Tommy Munson to end the game. On to the semi-finals.

March 14th Semi-Final, Dawgs vs. Laguna Bandits

The Dawgs faced a tough pitcher on the Lagunda Bandits team and had difficulty hitting this game.  Good stealing and 2 sacrifices got runs on the board. The Dawgs lost this one with a respectable score of 2-8. To quote coach Mark Murray “Great job this weekend, incredible going 3-1 in your first real 2 day tourney!”

Dawgs 12U – CHAMPS

The Delta Dawgs 12U baseball team won it’s first Championship of the 2010 season at the Super Series St. Patrick Day tournament held March 13th and 14th in Davis, Ca.

The Dawgs opened the 2010 campaign with injuries to several key players making the start of the season a challenging one.  The Dawgs have had their fair share of up and down moments but this weekend they put it all together and played solid baseball in route to a 5-0 record and the Championship.

The Dawgs opened the tournament against the Knuckleheads and won 4-2.  Then they faced off against the Bandits of Roseville and beat them convincingly 9-2 in a late night chiller.  In Sunday’s bracket play the Dawgs started slowly falling behind 4-0 against Bret’s Muckdogs.  However the Dawgs regrouped and defeated the Muckdogs 10-4.  In the semi final the Dawgs faced the tough Knuckleheads again but beat them 5-1.  The Dawgs paired up against the Elk Grove Longhorns in the finals.  The Longhorns only allowed two runs in their previous four games in route to the finals and they quickly jumped on the Dawgs in the top of the first with 3 runs.  However, the Dawgs weren’t playing around on this day as they evened the score 3-3 at the end of one inning.  The Dawgs didn’t stop there as they went on a roll scoring runs in every other inning in a convincing 11-5 victory.

The Dawgs got outstanding pitching performances from Jake Schwaab, CJ Sneath, Bryce Prybylinski and Myles Coston.   The defense was solid all weekend and timely hitting was the key to the Dawgs success.  Jose Vasquez, Max Petroff, Mason Fountain, Victor Anguiano, Jason Ochoa, Bryce Thompson along with Schwaab, Sneath, Prybylinski and Coston all shared a TEAM MVP award.

In addition to the 12U’s Championship the Delta Dawgs Baseball Club shared a great weekend by all of its teams.   The 9, 10 and 11U Dawgs played at Mather Sports Complex while the 13U Dawgs and the affiliated 14U Pride Baseball team played in Woodland.  The Dawgs 9U went 3-1 and made it to the semi finals where they lost to the eventual champs.  The Dawgs 10U went 3-2 and made it to the Championship game where they lost a tough one 15-8.  The 11U Dawgs went 1-2 but beat the tournament winning Delta Diamondbacks 6-2 in opening round play.  However they followed that victory with two heart breaking losses.  The 13U Dawgs played hard with a 1-1-1 record for the weekend and the 14U Pride went 2-1 with a tough Sunday loss.
